Brief view from a new player to this game

Postby Drakaden on Thu May 20, 2010 3:07 am

Hey there, this little opinion of mine is directed to the staff of this game in itself, to help them centering their game to a crowd that they might want to attract.

I gave a try to the game, i was looking at the screenshots and videos on youtube and i thought it would be decent to play, i had my little idea of a character i wanted to play, so i hopped on, and by my disappointment, i see any clothes/weapons changes require real money to do so, and that half the classes must be paid in order to be unlocked, so i was like... Bummer, im stuck with basic clothes and i'm forced to pick a class i do not really fancy into, so despite this i tried the game anyway...

So i went checking my character inventory, what i could possibly buy, it was very annoying to have to browse a web site to shop for anything, why could it not be inside the game itself? This lacks praticality... So i looked.. and noticed how 3/4 of the items are to be purchased with real money, that really appaled me, it gave me the impression of a shabby business card thrown in my face, we offer a free product but we offer it very cheaply, i understand its the game income, but the way it's been implemented doesn't gives any encouragements for the free players to actually wants to try it for a long period of time, who likes to stay in the same 2 or 3 outfits all the time on a long period of time? Changing clothes costs money... real money and i want nothing of it when the selection is this restricted, it gives me the impression the real money bargain is almost forced on me: "Ahh we offer you a few starting outfits, but you're stuck with them unless you pay us", so, nah, too aggressive of a business stance in my opinion, oh and for the record i wanted to play an engineer, just for the record.

So i went into the tutorial, i found the controls to be quite awkward, left cick for attacking and right click for moving, i am SO USED TO THE INVERSE!... So of course i went in the Options to modify my keys, what do i see? No way to change my mouse clicks controls? Oh now i was groaning, after passing thru the tutorial and frustrating over the clicks all the way in it, the gameplay felt fairly awkward.

So i did a quick check of the server lists, no games going on.. What? Nobody's playing? Well.. maybe its because the game isn't encouraging the free players to keep playing, a game need incentives for it's community if you want them to pay for it, if you do not give them the feeling the game is worth their money they ain't going to stick to it and even less pay for anything.

So i was like.. well.. since this game doesnt have a solo mode or a mode that would only require a team vs a pve environment to play, it's not worth my time, i'm a coop player and i frown a bit on competitional matches, i wouldn't have minded at all having a few modes that encourage players that wants to play alone or with a team that want nothing about competing with other players, which is my personal case, diversifying the game wouldn't hurt it.

So here's my 2 cents about the game, like it, hate it, make something out of it or do nothing, it's entirely up to you, i personally hope it helps.

Hello Drakaden,
I'm Elm, a French player of dungeon party.
Many good things in your topic.
But we have already notice all these problems. (In the French part of the forum)
The thing is the Dp* editor game doesn't care about the game because he doesn't earn any money.
So the game isn't improved.
We are also a little community of player who continue to play regularly. If you want to play with us try to go at 9.00 pm.
The game is fun and i think the three free characters are enough to enjoy yourself.

In other part, another american editor is create new solo mode for the game : dungeon bandit. But up to now, it's still in process.
So we wait for more news.

Best regards,

Elm
